Galapagos TEFL is situated in Puerto Ayora, the main city of the island of Santa Cruz, The Galapagos archipelago’s main commercial center. We are fully accredited and offer, besides the incredible location, a truly unique learning experience that will fully prepare you for success in the TESOL industry.
Our mission at Galapagos TEFL is to prepare participants for the classrooms they will enter in countries around the world. To do so, we have developed an intensive course that fosters open-minded and creative problem-solvers. Through experiential learning we work to assist each participant in developing their unique abilities to create and administer student-centered lessons in ways that foster intercultural awareness and provide for student identity.
Further, we aim to be a positive force for the Galapagos community and be an agent of change through cross-cultural connections, English language learning and volunteer projects focused on environmental restoration and conservation. To that end, our Galapagos TEFL participants have the chance to not only earn their professional certification, but leave a positive and lasting legacy.
The TESOL certificate offered by TEFL Galapagos is accredited by Marlboro College, a United States-based and internationally recognized institution of higher education. Following the ethos of Marlboro College, we seek to engage each participant as an individual and encourage creativity and independence while developing a personal teaching methodology.
How We Got Started
Galapagos TEFL is owned and operated by John Pfordresher. He is also the lead trainer for the TESOL program and is dedicated to providing a personal experience to every participant. John has been actively engaged in professional development since he began teaching nearly 10 years ago. He has worked with students and teachers in countries across the world and believes that teaching English can have a real, positive impact on the communities in which we teach. Having worked in the field for so long, John knows how lacking most TESOL certification programs are. He started Galapagos TEFL so that he could provide prospective teachers with the real-world training and experience that they need to succeed.
